Winchester Mystery House

525 South Winchester Boulevard
San Jose CA 95128
408-247-2101

This 160 room mansion was build over the course of 38 years, by carpenters who worked 24 hours a day. They were directed by Sarah Winchester, the widow of the Winchester Rifle heir. It is said that she believed that as long as she kept building something, she would never die.

The number 13 comes up over and over again in design elements. There are twisting staircases and secret passageways throughout the home, as well as doors leading to nowhere. After the Great San Francisco Earthquake in 1906 she had the from part of the house sealed off. Harry Houdini visited the house in 1924.

Several tours are available, including occasional Flashlight Tours throughout the year.

See the website for additional information regarding the legends and tour times/prices.
